It occurred to me yesterday that it’s worth looking back at the things I wrote about at the beginning of the year as being my main 2011 areas of focus. To that end, here’s an update on where I stand with all that stuff.
Getting Back to Regular Blogging
I’ve definitely fulfilled my objective of getting back to daily posting during the trading week, or at least almost daily. There have been a couple of days when I couldn’t get to it, but for the most part it’s been a daily thing. Hopefully everyone is finding the posts interesting, informational, or at least mildly entertaining. I’ve also been regularly sharing thoughts and links via the Facebook page and Twitter feed.
More Interaction
This is something I’ve only scratched the surface on. I’ve been a bit more active with communication to the email list, but that’s been it so far. I’ve got some ideas for things to do there, though at the moment my days are extremely full.
More Trading
I’m almost done with the major financial consolidating I mentioned at the start of the year. That will free me up to get more active in the markets once more. I’ve done a couple of little trades here and there, but nothing major or sustained yet. The one exception is the forex seasonals strategy I’ve been running. I showed some of its recent performance yesterday. At the end of the month I’ll post a Q1 update on how the strategy has been doing so far.
Get the New Edition of the FAQs Book Published
I wish I could say there’s been good progress here, but there hasn’t. Things have gotten annoyingly bogged down.
Research Finance PhD Programs
It looks like I’m locked in to a program. I noted my visit to the ICMA Centre at the University of Reading’s Henley Business School from last year in my January post. That was looking like the strongest candidate at that point and events have only made it much more likely to be my destination since. I’ve had a very positive running exchange with the professor who is most likely to be my PhD adviser should I go to Reading based on our shared interest in Behavioral Finance. I don’t have my specific research proposal fleshed out, but I will do so between now and the fall when my application will go in. I’ll probably visit campus again in early November. In the meantime, I’ve got loads of catching up to do on related research.
I’ve got some other stuff in the works as well, including an overhaul of this website, so stay tuned.
