Trader interaction and information sharing

Of late I have been fairly active on the net looking at trading websites of various types, participating in discussion forums, and checking out blogs from a variety of people. It’s something that I enjoy doing as it allows me to interact with traders from all over the world. Trading can be very solitary at times – though I’m working toward making my Club something different – but taking part in what’s going on in the broader world can make it a bit less lonely.

There’s an awful lot of stuff out there, though, and a lot of it is completely useless to be honest. For example, I’m not going to read any blog or forum that is nothing more than someone’s trading log. I don’t need to know where the poster bought Google or sold USD/JPY. In fact, I personally don’t often read other people’s market analysis. It tends to clutter my own thinking. The exception can be when someone is using an innovative methodology or refers to a market I don’t normally follow.

The three primary trading forums I monitor and contribute to are Trade2Win, Elite Trader, and BabyPips. The first two are very big with tens of thousands of registered users. BabyPips is a bit newer and smaller, but up and coming. It’s focused on forex trading, especially for newer traders. There are some others out there, to be sure. Feel free to leave a comment and let me know what forum(s) you like.

As for blogs, I’m pretty picky. Like I said, someone’s trading journal is not appealing to me unless they put in much more than just their trades. I’m looking for someone who is going to inspire interesting thoughts in my mind or provide me with information I may not find on my own. There are a lot of very inexperienced and quite unknowledgeable traders posting to their poorly written blogs. Obviously, I ignore them.

While I will favor those with obvious market experience, that doesn’t mean a relative newbie doesn’t have something to offer. If they write well and can express their progression through the learning process, it can definitely be worthwhile reading.

Trader Gav tosses some interesting little tidbits in to his posting, as does The Miseducated Day Trader. Trader Mike provides a ton of information, most of which I don’t really do more than very quickly skim, but he also provides links to a lot of interesting articles and commentary.

My absolute favorite trading blog, though, is Trader Feed. That’s Brett Steenbarger’s primary blog. He posts so much great stuff, both in terms of his trading and view on the markets and perspectives on the process of trading as well. I actually should spend more time reading his posts. :-)

I’m always looking to add to my list of daily reading sources. Do you have a favorite blog or site you like to visit? If so, let me know.
