I was asked the following question yesterday:
“Where can I find a list of the sector indices, the stocks that make them up…?”
I know the folks at Investors Business Daily publish that information and have some great tools for use with it. I’m pretty sure there’s a price tag associated with getting access to their stuff, though. In looking to find the information available for free on the web I did some searching and found that those wonderful folks at Yahoo! have a listing in their Finance area.
If you click here you will get a full listing of all the industry sectors.
Once there, if you click on the industry name, you can drill down and get more information:
On the left, in the first section of the sidebar, you will see Company Index. Clicking on that brings up a full listing of all the stocks that make up the index.
While Yahoo! presents loads of great information, it’s not necessarily in an easy fashion to use if you want to do some cutting and pasting for your own research purposes, the layout is less than optimal. Have no fear, though. I found a different source that should come in handy for that sort of thing – QuoteLinks.com. They have a great Stock Sector List, and if you click on a sector you are presented with a straight list of the stocks in the sector, with symbols.
